Declaration of the International Ravensbrück Committee of May 20, 2007, translation from French

The International Ravensbrück Committee, which consists of delegates from the associations of former prisoners and relatives of the dead of the Ravensbrück concentration camp from more than 17 European countries - a camp in which almost exclusively women were imprisoned - emphasized after its meeting on May 18, 2007 in Barcelona, in cooperation and with the necessary support from the Ravensbrück Memorial, the need: Defending and honoring the memory of the dead and strengthening bonds of friendship and solidarity with loved ones and their descendants, To uphold the ideals of the former prisoners in their struggle for freedom, democracy, the dignity of the individual and the independence of peoples, To disseminate knowledge and to protect the statements of contemporary witnesses from falsification, so that the history of the Ravensbrück concentration camp and its subcamps can be passed on in all their complexity and taking into account the special situation of women, To protect and make accessible all parts of the Ravensbrück camp complex (women's camps, men's camps, Siemens labor camps, Uckermark youth camps, which later became an extermination camp), The International Ravensbrück Committee is committed to continuing the fight against Nazism, fascism, racism, anti-Semitism and all forms of discrimination and denial of Nazi crimes. The International Ravensbrück Committee will pass on the ideal of resistance to oppression and any violation of human rights to future generations without any time limit. The International Ravensbrück Committee, which initially only comprised the former prisoners who are now the last, decided a few years ago to include their relatives and those who share their ideals so that it can continue its work and share its goals can reach new powers. It is natural to remember that these individuals whom we fully trust will take our place in action.
